About Discount Calculations
A Discount is a reduction in the original price of a product or service, usually offered during sales, promotions, or special events. It helps customers save money while making purchases. A percentage discount is a reduction in the original price of an item based on a certain percentage. Discounts can be a percentage of the original price or a fixed amount deducted from it.
Formula for Discount:
Discount Amount = (Original Price × Discount %) ÷ 100
Final Price = Original Price − Discount Amount
Where:
- Original Price = The initial cost of the item
- Discount % = The percentage of discount offered
- Discount Amount = The amount deducted from the original price
- Final Price = The amount payable after applying the discount
Example:
If a jacket originally costs $200 and is on a 20% discount, the discount amount is:
Discount = (200 × 20) ÷ 100 = $40
So, the final price after the discount will be:
200 − 40 = $160
Thus, after the 20% discount, the jacket will cost $160 instead of $200, saving you $40.
